Lucinda Williams

Saturday, January 27, 2018, 8:00 PM

Lucinda Williams may be the best roots- and blues-oriented songwriter working. Her songs have been covered by some of the most distinctive musicians of her generation, but she remains her own best interpreter. She exploded into public consciousness with her 1988 self-titled album, which was overflowing with songs everyone should hear at least once, including "Passionate Kisses," "Big Red Sun Blues," and the breakup anthem "Changed the Locks." Now in her 60s, she is selling out venues across North America and throughout Europe. Her Louisiana drawl gives her voice distinction. Her lyrics employ a pared-down vocabulary to tell stories in arrestingly original ways. Williams' writing has been influenced by the taste and example of her father, the poet Miller Williams, who died in 2015. She put one of his poems to music on her 2014 album, "Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone."
